As I was leaving On/Off after working for Jayne Pierson's "Kingdom of Shadows" show, the Charlie le Mindu team were swiftly moving their rails in for their 3rd showing at On/Off, all that could be seen was a mass of hair and fur! Inspired by 'Salon kitty' (a brothel in Berlin), he takes us on an explicit journey through repressed femininity and Berlin during the Second World War.

Pre Fall 11

Prominent trends throughout S/S 11, such as the exuberant 70’s Disco Luxe, colour blocking and segmentation, continue throughout Pre Fall, focussing on longer hemlines and replacing body con. There is a big rise in the use of an old love, gnarled leather and wistful winter wools, including suede and angora. We have the adorable Norwegian style sweater to look forward to, which combines nostalgic patterns with 60’s vintage elements. This look becomes a firm favourite in Fall!
Even though preppy sweaters still remain current, there is a definite shift to “a weekend in the country”, embracing rustic shades and all things tweed. I think Derek Lam’s Pre Fall Collection is a perfect blend of summers’ signature pinks, extended hemlines and A/W hints of heritage.

Urban Leisure and Casual Youth are the fore front themes in Menswear this Pre Fall. The 70’s influence is still apparent and a play on proportion is a thread that runs throughout. Finally we see a changeover in eyewear, leaving our aviators on the shelf, as circular and square turtle shell frames slowly but surely creep onto the catwalks. Loafers have to be the most eminent item in Menswear this season, complimenting the overall casual mood. Brothel creeper and Chelsea boots however are also high on the list of must haves.
